We love going to Kentucky Fried Chicken. Although we enjoy the chicken, we actually go for the coleslaw. We buy several pints at a time. I make several versions of cole slaw but we sometimes just want this. I tried for several years before getting this copycat KFC coleslaw recipe right. I think I have figured it out now. If you are in a hurry, pick up a bag of shredded slaw mix. It is not quite as good as grating it yourself though. —Donna Gribbins, Shelbyville, Kentucky

Copycat KFC Coleslaw Tips

Can you use other kinds of cabbage to make copycat KFC coleslaw?

KFC uses chopped green cabbage in their famous coleslaw recipe. Check out our tips for how to shred cabbage if you're looking to do it yourself. However, if you're looking for convenience, you can use a prepackaged coleslaw mix from the grocery store (the mixes usually contain carrots, too!).

How can you keep copycat KFC coleslaw from being watery?

It is completely normal for the cabbage to release water when mixed with the other ingredients in this recipe. This helps contribute to the dressing, and evenly coats the coleslaw. If you don't like so much liquid, you can easily drain it off before serving. Better yet, serve this coleslaw with a slotted spoon!

What can you serve with copycat KFC coleslaw?

Of course, fried chicken and other copycat KFC recipes come to mind! However, this copycat KFC coleslaw recipe is versatile: It can be served with a fish fry, on top a pulled pork sandwich or as your new favorite side dish at a picnic.
